Darklight Cinemas Double Feature: Scream & I Know What You Did Last Summer

Hosted by Jesse Chapman and Zach Lyons

SCREAM (1996, Directed by Wes Craven)

What can we say about ScreamScream is great because it features one of horror’s coolest villains, Ghostface (NOT Killah, ironically), the masked murderer best known for having a really sharp knife and unusually good cell service.

Besides being one of the most well-crafted and influential horror movies of all time, it also single-handedly created Hollywood juggernaut Jamie Kennedy. Just like how A Nightmare on Elm Street catapulted Johnny Depp to superstardom, Scream launched Jamie Kennedy into the entertainment stratosphere, where he’d go on to be in Malibu’s Most Wanted and a podcast.

Best of all, Scream holds up! It’s nearly perfect in every way. So come re-live a piece of your childhood with us as we watch the film who’s only flaw is that it desperately can’t stop reminding us that we have to pick a favorite scary movie. What’s your favorite? What’s your favorite? — If I just say it’s you, Scream, will you fucking let this go?!

I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER (1997, Directed by Jim Gillespie)

And the fun doesn’t end here! It’s a double feature, baby, so we’re following it up with a movie so stylistically similar to Scream that if you pause it just right, you’ll see that Courtney Cox actually plays every character. It was originally titled I Know What You Did Last Screa… I MEAN Summer! I meant Summer! Luckily someone on the film caught the error before the posters came out.

If you ever wanted to know what it’d be like if Sarah Michelle Gellar had a baby with Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch, you’ll love I Know What You Did Last Summer! The film’s raincoat killer is super scary—a tough ol’ son of B who’s out for revenge against a group of reckless teenagers and the NYC taxi that soaked him by driving through a puddle too fast. What more do you need? Sign up now to see the movie that fishermen everywhere have called “an ongoing class action lawsuit.”

By the way, Halloween is just a time to have some scary fun, and this movie’s got it all—an intriguing mystery, exciting jump scares, and rave reviews from both fans and the cast. In fact, I Know What You Did Last Summer actress Mary McMillan once called the movie, “The only thing you know me from.”

So don’t miss our double feature of Scream and IKWYDLS! It’s the perfect 1-2-punch for your Halloween! Come for the nostalgic fright; stay because that prescription Claritin’s finally kicking in and this is kinda nice.—Chris Newth
